At least until the system is fixed. There needs to be a salary cap in baseball or a major overhaul to the rules around how much teams can spend on payroll every year.

I mean, how can ANYONE take the Yankees winning ANYTHING seriously? It's a disgrace that they can try and buy championships year after year after year and get away with it. I bet they wouldn't win ONE game if other teams could spend billions every year. It's disgusting and I get sick to my stomach when I think about all those long suffering fans of those teams who are no longer playing this season because of those ARROGANT GREEDY SCUMBAGS.

To me, there is no AL Champion this year, and no matter what happens in this farce of a World Series, the Phillies are the champs. They earned their place in the World Series, and the Yankees didn't. TOO BAD YANKEE LOSERS! YOU WIL NEVER GET ANY RESPECT!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well if thats the case, you shoulda been done with baseball a while ago.

you know, considering all the world series titles they've won.

say what you want about yankee fans, but they sure beat the bandwagon morons that came out of the wood work when the red sox FINALLY won a series.

where are they now by the way?

Obviously "buying" a championship is not possible...The Yankees have not won since 2000. Your 2004 & 2007 Red Sox were stacked with free agents...

2004 Red Sox 125million vs. Cardinals 70million.  2007 Red Sox 143mil vs. Rockies 54million..... Lets not count those either! ........Bow down to Yankees Universe and kiss our rings right now!!!!

I know other teams spend, but the Yanks take the cake. They get every high profile player out there. Now they are going after some cuban kid who throws 102 MPH! Im sure they will offer him a billion dollars too. Just create a hard cap and have teams stick to it. Teams that draft and develop their own talent should benefit the most. The Yankees ruin baseball.

I'm not sure I buy the whole salary cap argument, considering sports that do have the salary cap continue to feature the same teams in the playoffs every year.  (i.e. Lakers in the NBA, Pittsburgh, NE, NYG, etc in the NFL).  Sure, it will force Cashman to show his true colors if faced with a salary cap, but I still believe players will find their way to NY one way or another and they would still be contenders...

MactionY2K5!!!!
 In a nutshell, OUTSTANDING POINT!
Very simply, Franchises COMMITTED TO WININING EVERYTHING will be THE VERY BEST no matter what the circumstances, Thats why they're THE BEST most of the time!
 AND...
GREAT PLAYERS who WANT TO WIN IT ALL will take less to go there to WIN IT ALL if that's what it takes. We've seen that in every sport.
 Like I said here frequently...
The obvious is only obvious to some around here ONLY when it's pointed out.
Thanks for that. As far as that HOSER leaving?

The Yankees are the best sports team to model a franchise after.  To say that they ruin the sport is ridiculous.  That’s like Warren Buffet taking a stake in a company and saying that he is ruining the stock market by doing so…even you Henry should know better.  You build a winning team by:

Developing your own talent:  60% of the Yankees current roster was developed in the farm system.  This percentage was the best out of all of the teams who made the playoffs…and yes even the Red Sox.

Retaining your talent after you developed them:  The same core of players have been resigned over the years that have won divisions, pennants, and championships.

Signing the right free agents and addressing needs:  Spend money to make money, but spend it wisely on the right players and needs.

If the Bills and Sabres followed this model, they would have probably won some championships along the way.  Don’t hate the Yankees because your sports teams can’t be like them.

sport i get it, i give them credit for to trade for top players you have to have top players to trade. BUT i'm getting sick of every TOP player going to them and now it's some 21 year old cuban who they will throw a billion dollars at. I want a hard cap with everyone having the sme opportunity to win. At least the Phills didn't give a zillion dollars or players for Lee comapred to the boon they gave for Sabathia

JC you should be done with baseball regardless of whether the Yankees win or not. Your lack of baseball knowledge and blind hatred towards the Yankees makes you look like a fool.

And once again Henry showing why he really is the ultimate clown on this message board. Hypocracy is very unbecoming of you Mr Whiney. You bash Buffalo sports teams ownership ad nauseum for not being committed to winning and then turn around and claim the Yankees are ruining baseball for doing just that.

It's funny to me that Yankee haters think that MLB instituting a salary cap will automatically salvage baseball and allow teams like Pittsburgh & KC to compete with the Yankees. Hate to burst your bubble, but since when does a salary cap in pro sports guarantee a level playing field?  I guess franchises like the Dallas Cowboys & New York Rangers are playing on the same financial field as Buffalo then right? Hardly.

The fact is, over the past decade, more and more MLB teams are competing for playoff spots regardless of payroll. Plus 5 out of the past 8 World Series Champions were teams that had a team payroll under $90 million.

The absurdity of the whole payroll, Yankees ruining baseball argument is that teams like Boston, Anaheim & Philly, who all rank in the top 10 in team payroll, are somehow viewed as these huge underdogs and supposedly teams that cant compete financially, yet all have won a WS this decade.

It's not like a salary cap is going to turn baseball into a sport with parity. If you made the salary cap 100 mil or around the median, whatever is it, I doubt the teams that don't spend money now are going to start. The Pirates, Royals, Marlins, etc. will still spend the same amount. Teams don't need to spend 200 million like the Yankees and Sox, they need to develop farm systems and spend the money wisely. I don't think there will ever see a salary cap because it costs players money and they would rather have money than win a title.
